Although it seems that blogs are used for whining and complaining all too often, I’m gonna whine and complain.
Recieving a weekly newsletter form my local arts organization is indeed a mixed blessing. It’s really nice to hear about what all the industrious artsy folk are up to: where they are showing, awards, all that stuff.
The one thing they are not doing is working on their web sites.
The average artist’s site looks like (very) bad late-night public access tv. Abysmal. Like they are trying to look bad. Check this one. Or this one. Or my current fave.
These folks are supposed to be artists. Can they not tell how bad these sites look, or do they just not care? Check out this one. This was done by one of my students, who has had but 8 weeks of web design. I am notresponsible for the design. That’s all on Jean-Joel.
Yes, I am comparing something done by someone willing to take a class, but good Lord, at least he cares about his work enough to not frame it with a chartreuse mat and a gold bamboo frame.
Would you buy a piece of artwork from that those other folks?

It’s been something like 3 weks since I’ve even attempted to write anything here. Not that the intent wasn’t there, but a lot of other things keep cropping up. Did manage to sneak off to Iowa for a few days. That was good.
I’ve been revamping the finearts site, not that it’s finished by any means, but I have worked through some easier ways to redesign a couple of hundred pages. Find and replace is very nice, especially when one can do it across multiple documents. Thank you BBEdit.
I hope to get the newly revised stuff up soon, with a mirror here (on cringedogs). I’d like to get more exposure/feedback.
Still need to figure out some of this template stuff, but I have it reasonably hacked.

Finally found that quicktags (still) don’t work in Safari-or rather Safari doesn’t work quicktags, or something like that. These stupid little posts are getting annoying even to me, but at least I didn’t say what I had for dinner.
I do think it’s interesting, just a little frustrating, trying to do what I want design-wise. The main reason I’m writing these is to keep track in case I ever try and use this in a class-which would be an option. Then I would have to be able to walk students through the whole thing. Either that or set it all up for them.
Next up, I think I’ll play whith getting the links in a different order, as well as getting them styled the way me wants.

Well, hacking this thing is sure fun. Two steps forward… I frankly don’t get the joy of using templates, at least at this juncture in time. I’m still mystified as to why the stupid quicktags are not present. I’m sure it’s some kind of Zen thing. If I groove with it long enough it will happen.
Meanwhile I’m going to the WP forums…

Thought this was simple. I guess I always come to things a bit late in life. The problem here is I CAN’T FIND THE QUICKTAGS AND IT’S REALLY DRIVING ME BATSHIT!
Along with trying (slowly) to hack this theme thing.

Just got this thing up, and I’m in the middle of about 5 other things… When I think of something intelligent/interesting to post, I promise. As for the design, well, the default will have to do for now.
